Thursday March 22, 2012

Thursday morning we woke up really early so we could get down to to the Tidal Basin to take photos of the cherry blossoms at sunrise.  But sunrise came and went but we weren't aware of it...we were in thick fog all morning.

Even though the thick fog prevent us from taking the photos that we thought we were going to take, we did get some pretty cool photos.

I love close up photos of the flowers.  Someday I'm going to paint or draw them.

We took turns using the camera and had a blast.  The weather was also cool but not cold and very humid.

Notice the Washington Memorial in the background...the fog was still sticking around a couple hours later.

Three hours later and without any breakfast, my FIL and I were lacking energy.  We needed food and luckily we got it a few  minutes later.

We went to other places besides just the cherry blossoms.  You can tell by the above photos.  Here's some pillars from the Library of Congress.

And we ended up at the Botanical Gardens and loved looking at all the orchids.

The tulips were out...a week ago they weren't.  Aren't they beautiful?!!

And here we are at home.  We were very grateful to have SM's parents come to visit.  We were also very blessed to have such wonderful warm weather that caused the trees to bloom earlier than usual.  It was a wonderful Spring Break!!

Wednesday March 21st, 2012 Part II

Wednesday afternoon we went to Gettysburg.  We spent an hour or so in the museum.  We started with the cyclorama which is a circular giant painting that was painted a few years after the Gettysburg Battle.

Civil war informs - for the North.

-for the South.

Decided to get our photo with Abraham Lincoln.

We were able to spend a couple hours driving around listening to an audio tour of Gettysburg, and getting out and reading different plaques about the three days battle at Gettysburg.

The cemetery at Gettysburg.

The end of the battle...the stone with the rope around represents the last place and ending to the Gettysburg battle.  And the last place before we headed home.

On Wednesday we drove to Hershey, PA and took at tour of Chocolate World.

After taking a tour and learning all about how Hershey chocolate is made they dropped us off in the shop where you can buy souvenirs and chocolate to your hearts' content.

Me, eating a bite of chocolate!

After taking our tour, we drove around Hershey and stopped to take a picture of the light posts that are shapped like Hershey Kisses, either silver or dark brown.

I feel very blessed that SM was able to be away from work and still teach his classes and stay on top of all his work.  I've got an awesome husband who loves his job.

Tuesday March 20, 2012

Cherry blossoms.  On Tuesday we stuck around the house and that afternoon we went walking in the neighborhood and took some photos of the cherry blossoms.  This year they blossomed earlier than usual because of the unusual warm weather we've had since the beginning of March.

Have you ever heard the song "Popcorn popping on the apricot tree"?  Doesn't this look like popcorn has overwhelmed this tree?  I love all those blossoms.  They were out for about one week, and then spring winds came up and blew them off.  It looked like it was snowing large flakes.

We took photos near the "lake" near our town house.

My father-in-law ended up being our model.  Hee, hee!

No, not cherry blossoms, just yellow blossoms on a bush.

And this is another kind of cherry blossom but I haven't yet learned what kind of tree.  But I absolutely love this blossom with it's many layers and very pink colors.

Lovely red blossoms on bushes.  We soon will have the azaleas blooming.

And other blossoms that aren't cherry blossoms but they are beautiful.

And blossoms from the tulip tree.  Do you think perhaps I went overboard with the picture taking of blossoms?

This spring is so beautiful!  All of those flowers on the trees and bushes.  Beautiful!!!!!
